Thinfilm Electronics manufactures two kinds of NFC tags using its unique printed electronics manufacturing technology:
- Thinfilm SpeedTap
- One 128 bit ID embedded at the time of manufacturing.
- Thinfilm OpenSense
- In comparison to SpeedTap it has an extra sensor wire that is part of the label.
- Two 128 bit IDs embedded at the time of manufacturing.
- The ID being sent to the NFC reader (typically a smartphone) is chosen from the two embedded IDs based on the current electrical conductivity status of the sensor wire. Thus it is for instance possible to make a label attached to a container report different IDs depending on whether the bottle has been opened or not.
